Rain. Rain. Some more Rain.

We've been in a funk lately-- between the upstairs of our house being torn apart (we're working on a remodeling/redecorating project that is never ending-  updates to come soon) and the NONSTOP rain for the past four days, we needed a project to soothe the soul fever that Alex seems to be suffering from.  My facebook friend Laura has been taunting everyone with pictures of delicious gourmet baked donuts for a while now, so I ordered a pan and we got to work today.  Yum!  For our first batch we used a 'normal' donut recipe and just substituted the flour for our Jules Gluten Free flour mix.  It worked, but there is a LOT of sugar in the current creations-- I'm going to mess around and see if we can come up with a healthier version!

Grams and Gramps came up for a quick visit.  The main purpose of the trip is to get a bunch of Auntie Rorie's stuff moved from her place in Wisconsin back to our house.  She's changing jobs and needs a soft place to land for a few transitional months-- we're only too happy to have her!

Before all the work started, though, we took a day to explore the Minnesota Zoo with them.  It had been a while since they had visited our favorite spot, and they enjoyed seeing all the updates and new exhibits!

The beaver and Justin had "a moment".
Justin in front of his FAVORITE animal's exhibit-- I don't know if you can see the lynx in the background of the photo, but he's there somewhere.
 Alex prefers the up-close-and-personal animals.

Starting our Seeds

It's least we sorely WANT it to be spring.  So we took a trip to the store to get supplies to start our seeds in hopes of having healthy and strong seedlings to transplant when it's finally time to plant our garden.

Carrots, kale, swiss chard, peppers, tomatoes, pickling cucumbers, squash, zucchini and some flower seeds.
Dirt on the kitchen table.  I'm embracing it.

I can't get over how sweet Alex's handwriting looks on the plant labels.
Once she figured out that the dirt cascading to the floor wasn't delicious, Kolachi settled down in one of her favorite spots to watch the process unfold.
We found a bench and a window that will hopefully provide some sunlight (if it EVER stops raining!) and a safe spot for our seed babies to grow.  The cat has been formally 'uninvited' from the office with both a closed door AND a sign.

Easter Sunday in photos

Not many words are needed here-- just a wonderful day celebrating the Risen Christ!

Alex joined GranPapa and Mama to sing at Easter Sunday service- (the video isn't uploading for some reason- I'll keep working on it!)

He is Risen, Indeed!

Saturday with the family

We spent the warm, sunny Saturday before Easter playing outside and visiting with family.  Kolachi got to meet her new cousin, Frodo-  they got along well and were both completely worn out after their playdate!
We went to Bass Pro Shops for dinner and were excited to find that all of the arcade games had been turned to 'free'-
Dave and Alex did some target practice while GranPapa and Justin drove the
race cars.

In Des Moines- decorating our eggs

The kids woke up bright and early to get their important task underway.  It was time to decorate the Easter eggs!
Brother watched carefully as Sister demonstrated how to 'perfectly' dye an egg.

 So did Kolachi....

 Beautiful!  Nice job, children!
