Puppies Everywhere!

Puppies, Puppies, Everywhere!!  Cathleen accompanied me to Kolachi's GSD Puppy Class on Friday night to be my official photographer.  Those darn puppies are so fast, though, that they're hard to catch on film!  (Mine is the one with the green collar).  She's the second youngest, but they're all catching up to each other in size.
We begin each class with an off-leash puppy playtime.  Kolachi is one of the only 'only dogs', so she has a lot to learn about how to play.  Her first reaction is to run, leading a merry chase.  This kicks the other puppy prey drives into high gear and we end up with some craziness.  There are time-outs given.  The other puppies calm back down and Kolachi starts it all over again.
After playtime, it's time for some focused one-on-one training in the big ring.  Kolachi likes to show off all of her tricks.
High-five, Mama!  We've got all these other puppies beat in the obedience department!

Preparing the Poi

We've had a busy pre-Birthday schedule. Grams and Gramps departed the same day Grandma Mary came for a whirlwind visit.  She left and Alex's Fairy Godmother, Cathleen, arrived from Chicago just in time to help me finish preparing for the Birthday Luau!
What's that?  Oh-- just some Taro root.... you know... for the authentic Poi that Alex requested for her Ancient Hawaii party.  No biggie.

Guten Tag!

We headed out to the Renaissance Festival for our annual visit.... just us and three thousand of our closest friends.  Seriously.  It was SO busy that Auntie Carrie and Daddy couldn't even find a turkey leg stand that still had product!
It was Oktoberfest weekend (hence our outfits), so the Special Events field had free beer tasting, German music and dancing along with a smattering of German food.  I was a bit disappointed at the lack of Oktoberfest-i-ness.  It was pretty dead on that side of the festival.
Everywhere else, though, was so busy you had to watch every step you took.  Luckily we brought our wagon, so Ze Boy could ride in style.  His best line from the afternoon was "What is HAPPENING here?"
We had a great time, but definitely didn't get to do everything we normally enjoy-- just too crowded!  Luckily the weather was beautiful, and we DID see a fire show (Justin's choice), we found Twig the fairy (Alex's request), some of us enjoyed turkey legs (Thanks for sharing, Chris) and Dave got his pickle(s).
The crew--  Daddy, Alex, Mama, Uncle Sam, Auntie Carrie, Auntie Rorie, Chris (not picured: Justin, Gramps and Grams).  Our group definitiely added to the overpopulation problem!
Waiting in line to see the MERMAIDS, Alex noticed something drifting down from above:  Father Christmas was blowing bubbles for the children from the top of his house!
We also found "The Painted Lady" who let children paint HER as she told stories.
 Naptime!
He woke up for the snakes....
Alex loves, loves, loves listening to stories, and the Ren Fest is a Waldorf child's dream of wonderful storytellers around each corner!

Rapunzel, Rapunzel...

Alex got to open an early birthday present today... and didn't want to take it off-- ever!  I think she's decided what she's going to be for Halloween-
No...not over the top at all, right? ;-)

Pupdate: Photo Heavy

I adore my new photography subject:

She puts up with a camera in her face 90% of the time.  The remaining 10% is spent trying to keep the camera out of her mouth.

She weighed in at 23.4 lbs this morning-- almost double her 'coming home' weight of 12.3 lbs!  She's growing and learning and playing every day.

Fun with Photoshop--

12 Weeks-- and some new chores

Kolachi is 12 weeks old!  She's learning the ropes of being a member of the Marotz family-- and the kids have also taken on some new responsibilities.
Alex helps groom the puppy.
Justin took charge of brushing the cat.  Percy loves the extra attention!

Rainy Day

We haven't had enough rainy days this summer, so it was a treat to get all geared up and play for a while before school today.  Kolachi was already in her car crate, so she didn't get to join in on the fun.

Unmarked Park!

We've driven past this unmarked (city?) park for a year or so now, wondering about what it was, and finally decided to take a nature walk there today after a neighbor mentioned it being a great place to take her dog off-leash.  Kolachi is nowhere near being able to be there off-leash, but we did have an amazing adventure.  Enjoy the photos below!
Big Sister helps Brother get his mittens on.  They didn't stay on too long, but it was just on the chilly side.
Practicing our obedience on our walk.
 "It's a fairy umbrella, Mama!"

(check out our 'mangey' dog-- her puppy fuzz is disappearing.... she has a 'racing stripe' of adult fur down her back, which, in contrast to the fluff, looks really strange!)

Justin and Alex were delighted to discover a "jungle gym tree".

Got to get some agility training in wherever we are!

Justin took a break in the middle of the trail.  Too much jungle-gyming!
