Given an opportunity to choose what she wanted to do today, it is not surprising that Cathleen, Mary, Alexandra and I ended up at the Carpenter Nature Center for a Birthday Hike!
We did not, however, expect to encounter such a wonderful birthday surprise-- the bird banding group was hard at work in the main building, and more than happy to share their knowledge with us. Alex got some up close looks at a Chickadee, Junco and some sort of Thrush.
After our bird encounter, we went for a lovely collecting hike down to the river overlook and back. It's important to always have a bag or basket when you go on a walk with a toddler-- they find wonderful treasures everywhere and it's important to bring them home!
