Wings and Proboscides

We were back at Carpenter Nature Center this morning for their monthly preschool storytime. Today is was all about caterpillars and butterflies. As much as I love Eric Carle, I was very surprised (and slightly relieved) to discover the charming story- Where Does the Butterfly Go When It Rains? on the agenda.
Alex and the kids went on a 'butterfly hunt' and hiked all throughout the Nature Center's beautiful gardens looking for caterpillars and butterflies. After an 'up close encounter' with a Monarch, the brave staff handed out butterfly nets to the excited throng. We didn't catch anything, but we sure had fun trying!
As a craft the kids decorated paper bag wings, and then got to drink 'nectar' (lemonade) with their straw proboscides (I looked it up....that's the proper plural of probiscis!)
