Sick: Day One

We had to cancel a playdate this morning because Alex's fever came back. Yuck! So, it's a day of vegging out, relaxing and drinking lots of Gatorade. Alex also decided that she wanted to make some Halloween decorations, so she helped me construct Igor (sitting next to her on the couch). I gave her a pile of fabric scraps and she handed me pieces randomly that I sewed together to make the skeleton head. He's kind of cute, huh? And it kept us entertained for an hour or so this morning.

Sand Pastries at the park

Alex has gotten to go to the park more this weekend than any other in recent memory! She had two willing participants in Gramps and Grams to help her make sand muffins, cakes, and pies. Here are some photos from the Park Adventures!

Woodbury Days

Woodbury Days happened to fall during a visit from Gramps and Grams (Steve and Sue). We enjoyed the fall-like weather outside practically all day long!
The first order of business was to ride the carousel. Alex was gung-ho about getting on the horse, but as soon about 45 seconds after it started going up and down, she wanted OFF! Dave ended up just holding her as the platform went around and around.
Then, after walking around for a while, we found the petting zoo! One of the nicest I've been to-- the farmer who owned all the animals was right there, walking around and making sure they were being treated nicely. He always stopped by each pen to tell us the names of the animals we were looking at, and how old they were.
After petting her animal friends, Alex wanted to ride the ponies. I was hesitant, as the carousel ride ended poorly, but the woman operating the pony ride (which, by the way, had the nicest looking ponies I've ever seen giving rides- glossy coats, full bellies, content looks) said we could try, and if she didn't like it we wouldn't have to pay.

Wouldn't you know it, Alex got on and was perfectly at home in the saddle. Dave posted a short video clip, but here's a long version. Each pony had a handler walking next to it, just to make sure that everyone was safe (ponies and kids).
It was really hard to drag Alex away from the ponies, but we did eventually find a jumper that made up for it. She was the smallest kid in there, but that didn't stop her from having a blast.
Slowing down for a 'mik-nik' of pizza and water, watching a show on stage. What a fun day!

Applique Madness

Auntie Carrie was over this morning to visit- and Alex loved ordering her around (ie: "Auntie run NOW!") and helping her create the perfect mixed-media piece with cotton balls, glue, and wiggly eyes.
Since Alex seems to be coming down with a bit of a cold, we took it easy today. I outfitted her tent with blankets, pillows, and some stuffed animals, and she hung out in there most of the morning. During her nap, I managed to put the finishing touches on three more shirts. I'm having so much fun designing them!
A goofy Alex models the shirt she picked for the afternoon.

Sharing the Zoo with Miss Sarah

We had a really fun Zoo Date with my old middle-school/high school friend Sarah today. If you remember from previous blogs, she's in the Twin Cities as well, and we enjoy getting together when our schedules align! It was her FIRST trip to the MN Zoo, so Alex was a great tour guide. We even managed to catch the outdoor bird show (they have all kinds of NEW birds--for those of you who have only seen the indoor show, it's worth a stop!). Alex acted a bit shy around 'Miss Sarah', but was soon holding her hand and scootching down to sit next to her at the show.

Alex's Choice- Library Day

Well, we were headed to the gym again this morning, but after running the idea past Alexandra, she looked at me and said "No. Library". Because it was a rainy, dreary day out I decided that the library was a fantastic idea, so off we went!
The Woodbury library is located inside "Central Park", an indoor park with waterfalls and lots of greenery. We spent a half hour wandering around before checking out a bag full of books. Alex had to stop at a park bench on the way out, too, to glory in her new stash of library books. (Per my daughter's whim, the subject of EVERY single book we checked out had to be "Puppies").

Cookie Day

After going to our NEW gym this morning (we just joined Lifetime), where Alex played outside at their daycare (with no tears!), we came home and decided to make some cookies to celebrate her great morning. You can see how serious Alex was about the task at hand.
After they were done, we had a mini-"Micknic" on the front porch and then practiced riding the tricycle. Any tips out there for teaching toddlers the concept of turning handlebars?

ECFE Reunion

Our friends Amber and Isaiah (whom we hadn't seen since Kindermusik in May) hosted a reunion playdate for our Shakopee ECFE group. All these kids have known each other since infancy, and it's always so much fun to get together and see how much everyone has grown.

It's always amazing to me that a group of strangers formed such great friendships all because of newborn ECFE classes! I have a feeling that we'll be keeping tabs on all of Alex's buddies throughout the years. If you're reading this, thanks Susan, for fostering such a supportive environment and leading us through those first months!

If everyone feels up to a little bit of a road trip, we'd be happy to host a Halloween-themed playdate in Woodbury in late October!

We anticipated trouble when planning the group photo, but as the video below shows, the kids were surprisingly cooperative. Weird, huh? (Although the Mommies are all acting silly, so that's probably why the toddlers are content to sit and watch).

Masked Bandit....with Hot Cocoa

I just couldn't wait- I appliqued this shirt today for Alex and had to share-- I'm so happy with the outcome! She'll wear it to her ECFE reunion tomorrow :-) Not bad for a $1.25 clearance Target find, huh?

Catching up with old friends!

We were so excited to have some of our old Prior Lake friends, the Rutlands, make the trek up to Woodbury for a playdate today. Shayna, Megan and Matthew have known Alex since she was weeks old (actually, they technically met her in utero when I attended a MOMS Club meeting 8 months pregnant). We've missed them terribly, and it was great fun to show them the new house and catch up!Alex adores these two 'big kids' and idolizes them-- as you can tell by the photos, she was ready to do WHATEVER it was they were doing!Later in the afternoon we decided to ignore the weather and play outside for a bit. It didn't last long, as the rain got heavier and heavier, but Alex had fun just standing in the driveway in her raingear. She was very amused at the fact that I put on my raincoat and rainboots, too!

Emily Post we are not.....

Although Lady Amelia and Lady Alex did a fantastic job having a tea party this afternoon (catered by Chef Graham), the table manners did not translate to the lunch arena. Even though Emily Post would have been mortified by the laughing/giggling/talking with full mouths, Melissa and I thought it was pretty cute (while admonishing children to chew and swallow thoroughly through the meal). Graham was obviously the ringleader and made sure that everyone was being "very funny".

After her friends went home, Alex tearfully agreed to a nap. Luckily she was in a much better mood when she woke up, even spontaneously breaking into her own version of "Itsy-Bitsy Spider".

Returning Home

On our way home again! We had a fantastic vacation-- thank you so much Bob and Mary!! (and Auntie Carrie, too). Alex and Hippo had two great flights and were tucked snugly in their own crib by 5pm.

Return journey

We're headed home today. Amy will probably revise the blog to better
capture our trip.

On the 'tiny plane' Alex had to wear the headphones so she could
actually enjoy her shows. Bit she had hippo and miss kitty for company:

Telluride: Day Six

It was a drizzly day out, so we decided to take a car ride to Alta Lake-- up an old twisty logging road past an abandoned mine town.On the drive we saw some of Alex's new favorite animal- the Marmot. Dave actually had her convinced that he had one in his pocket and she was really excited.

Once we got to Alta Lake we got out and explored a bit. It felt alot like the Pacific Northwest to me, and not Colorado-- the forest was dense and the vegetation so green.

Telluride: Day Five

We're convinced that we're going to get Al at least OUT on skis this year (not necessarily actively skiing....just tromping around), but that means that she needs some gear.Daddy and Papa Bob were only TOO happy to bring her out in search of boots (which we determined would be better just to rent).
She DID get to bring home a new helmet and goggles, however!
One more Gondola ride!
Taking a break from shopping for ski-gear.
Happy at the end of a long shopping day!
